Demand Letters

Many disputes end with one precise letter. A demand letter from a legal services firm signals that the next step is a courtroom, and it often makes that step unnecessary.

Scope of ServiceLicensed paralegals are authorized by the Law Society of Ontario to provide legal services, including legal advice and representation, in these practice areas.

What a JGPC demand letter includes

  • The facts and the legal basis of the claim, stated plainly
  • A specific amount or remedy and a firm deadline
  • The consequences of ignoring it, stated accurately, never as an empty threat
  • Proof of delivery suitable for later court use
  • A follow-through plan: we are ready to file if the deadline passes

Common questions

Do demand letters actually work?
Frequently, especially against businesses and insured parties, because litigation is expensive for them too. When a letter will likely be ignored, we say so and discuss filing instead.
What happens if they ignore it?
The letter is drafted as the first exhibit of a Small Claims action, so escalation is seamless and nothing is wasted.
